Green Bag

Ben Kraal has relayed comments by Infinity Design’s Glenn Bevan regarding the “Green Bag”.

It’s a topic I’m very interested in and have been arguing for some time. Users tend to forget or neglect to carry Green Bags and purchase replacements when prompted at the counter, believing that they are making an environmentally responsible choice. The Green Bags slowly amass well beyond the users requirements.

I own one reusable Baggu that is the only reusable bag I have ever owned and hope to own for some time to come. It packs small enough to wear in my jeans pocket and comes with me every time I leave home, in case I find myself in a situation in which I would otherwise have used a plastic bag. Like the green bag it can not be recycled in Australia, however, Baggu do reclaim and recycle expired bags. Specific products aside, it’s habit forming that is most important. A reusable product only becomes an environmentally sustainable product over a long period of diverting users from a disposable equivalent.
